An Appeal to Adopt Fountain Pens for Sustainable Writing

Respected teachers, students, professionals, and friends,

We use pens every day, often without thinking about what happens after they stop writing. Most disposable ball pens, gel pens, and dot pens are used for a short timeand then thrown away. Because they contain mixed plastic, metal tips, rubber parts, and residual ink, they are difficult to collect, segregate, and recycle through ordinary waste systems.

A simple and practical alternativeis already available to us: the fountain pen. It is refillable, reusable, and durable. With bottled ink or a refill converter, one fountain pen can serve for years and can

replace many disposableplastic pens. This small shift follows the basic principle of sustainability: reduce repeated consumption and extend the life of the product.

Choosing afountainpen is also a cultural and educational choice. It improves the experience of handwriting, encourages care for personal belongings, reduces careless use-and-throw habits, and helps students understand sustainability through daily practice rather than only through lectures.

We therefore appeal to everyone to make a conscious transition toward refillable writing instruments wherever possible.Students may begin with one affordable fountainpen. Teachers and offices may encourage ink-refill points, pen-care awareness, and collectionboxes for old plastic pens. Institutions may celebrate a “Write Green” week to promote this habit collectively.

Let us make writing cleaner, wiser, and more responsible. A fountainpen may be small, but the habit it represents is powerful: reuse over waste, durability over disposability, and responsibility toward the planet.

With sincere appeal,
